Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a second-quarter earnings call that Apple will surpass its competitors in the field of AI and is expected to lead industry standards.

Cook believes that Apple’s unique advantages in the field of AI are mainly reflected in two aspects: hardware support and user privacy concerns.

He also revealed that Apple is making significant investments in the field of generative AI and plans to share some interesting things about it soon.

According to industry insiders, Apple’s new AI technology attempt may debut at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

It is reported that Apple may strengthen Siri and optimize native application functions in iOS 18 by developing its own large-scale language model Ajax.

The company has been working on offline response generation technology for more than a year, which allows AI on the device to generate text responses when there is no network connection. While Ajax can generate basic text responses on the device, more complex replies or text summaries may still require server-side processing.

Apple is exploring the ability to generate text from prompts on-device, but it’s unclear if it has successfully implemented offline text generation. Regardless, on-device processing will play a big role in basic functionality.
