Apple today announced new accessibility features that will be available later this year, including Eye Tracking, Music Haptics and Vocal Shortcuts.

  1. Vehicle Motion Alerts: Vehicle Motion Alerts is a new experience for iPhone and iPad designed to help minimize the symptoms of motion sickness for car riders. Research has shown that motion sickness is often caused by a sensory conflict between what a person sees and what they feel, which can prevent some users from comfortably using their iPhone or iPad while riding in a car. with Vehicle Motion Alerts, animated dots along the edges of the screen represent changes in the motion of the vehicle, helping to minimize the sensory conflict without distracting from the main content. Using sensors built into iPhone and iPad, Vehicle Motion Alerts recognizes when a user is in a moving vehicle and responds accordingly. The feature can be set to display automatically on the iPhone or turned on and off through the Control Center.
  • Featured: Vehicle Motion Alerts helps alleviate motion sickness for passengers using iPhone or iPad while in motion by displaying animated dots on the edge of the screen.
  • Technical Implementation: Utilizes the device’s built-in sensors to recognize vehicle motion and animate the alerts accordingly.
  • Application: Users can set this feature to automatically display or manually turn on in the control center.
  1. CarPlay Update: Upcoming CarPlay accessibility features include voice control, color filters and voice recognition. With Voice Control, users can navigate CarPlay and control apps using only their voice. With Sound Recognition, drivers or passengers who are hearing impaired or hard of hearing can turn on alerts to notify them of the sound of the car horn and siren. For colorblind users, color filters make the CarPlay interface visually easier to use, along with visual aids such as bold text and large text.
